Felicia Day's "Dollhouse" ep gets axed

by Paul William Tenny

DollhouseNow this is weird, why would Fox pay for an entire episode and then decide not to air it? TV by the Numbers reported last night after looking at Fox's schedule that Dollhouse's 12th episode is listed as a season finale, even though they shot 13 so far.

Felicia Day wrote on Twitter about 20 minutes ago that Fox isn't going to air her episode (#13) but that it would appear on the DVD set when it comes out:
Man, day getting worse and worse. Found out my Dollhouse ep, #13 isn't gonna air. Only on DVD. Such a great part too. Thx Fox. :(

At first I thought this was a tip that Fox wasn't even going to pick the series up for another season, even with speculation that they'll cancel Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, but keep Dollhouse for a while longer.

Both shows have struggeled mightly in the ratings, with SCC falling the furthest. Terminator began life following an NFL playoff game on a Sunday night that brought in over 16 million viewers. 24 hours later when the series debuted in its regular time slot, half those people didn't bother to come back for more.

Terminator has since been dredging the gutter at around ~5 million viewers, which is roughly where Dollhouse debuted, and has been struggling to get back to that point since.

Everyone condemned Fox debuting Dollhouse on Friday night which was as sure of a sign as any that Fox wasn't serious about the show and was looking to just kill it slowly and without mercy. Now supposedly they are going to move it to a new night, which also tends to just make matters worse. I really don't know how Fox could have screwed htis up worse than it already has.
