Gavin Hood set to direct 'Wolverine' for Fox

by Paul William Tenny

Gavin Hood has been set as director for the X-Men spin-off Wolverine, according to Variety. Hood can't seem to decide what he wants to be when he grows up, writing, directing, and acting for television and film. The only material I recognize were two acting parts in the SciFi Channel's Stargate: SG-1, although he has a number of awards for films I've never heard of, half which I cannot even pronounce. That list, by the way, is quite lengthy and impressive, we may be looking at one of Hollywood's newest stars.

It's an interesting choice, and it's always nice to see studios take a chance on new talent both in front of, and behind the lens. Hood's Oscar win for best foreign film in 2005 certainly lends credibility to his talent as a director, so here's to hoping he keeps his but firmly planted in the directors chair where it belongs, where it can do the most good, and doesn't interfere with the script.

Film star Hugh Jackman is behind Hood for the project, which was written by David Benioff is set to begin production this year for a 2008 release.
